![]() Overall, a better effort has been made in reproducing Calaga and Calaxian than the previous Game Boy Arcade Packs ( Asteroids & Missile Command and Centipede & Millipede), giving this shooter more than just a nostalgic appeal. The aliens also descend and react just as they did in the originals, and you get the same alternating two-player option. You move from side to side and fire at the same rate as in the arcade. The arcade controls have been left intact. When you complete a stage in Calaga, you even get the same jingly music as in the arcade. The same goes for the shooting sounds and rumbling explosions. Soundwise, Calaxian gives you the same authentic swooping sound effects as in the arcade, only slightly muted. Also, on the Super Game Boy, you get borders that exactly replicate the artwork found on the original arcade machines. While not quite as visible on the Game Boy, your spaceships and the aliens are detailed with multiple colors-just like in the arcade. The graphics provide much better color on the Super Game Boy than those of the previous Arcade Packs. If you're a shooter fen, this is the Arcade Pack to get. Two classic arcade shooters, Galaga and Galaxian, have reappeared as the latest in a series of fun two-games-in-one carts for the Game Boy.
